TOMY Omnibot 5402, Hearoid & Radio Shack Robie Sr
The TOMY Omnibot 5402, the TOMY Hearoid, and the Radio Shack Robie Sr are three home robots from the 1980s built on the same platform, and we make the replacement parts that fit all three. If yours has a droopy arm, a weak grip, worn treads, or corroded battery contacts, this page covers what these robots are and the exact parts we make to get them working again.
Three robots, one chassis
These three share the same drive and arm hardware, which is why the same parts fit all of them.
The TOMY Omnibot 5402 is the classic Omnibot butler. A two-track cassette recorder in its chest stores movement and audio, and a built-in clock plays those routines back at a set time. It carries a detachable tray that slots into its claws, rated to about 2.2 pounds, and its remote can broadcast your voice through the robot's speaker.
The TOMY Hearoid is a close sibling from the same family, built on the same body and running gear.
The Radio Shack Robie Sr (Model 2398) is Radio Shack's take on the same idea. It programs from a regular cassette tape, keeps time on an LCD alarm clock, carries the same style of tray, and runs on a 6-volt, 4.0 amp-hour sealed lead-acid battery good for about four hours a charge.
What tends to wear out
All three are around forty years old now, so the moving rubber and the metal contacts go first. The arm linkage cracks or snaps, so the arm won't hold its position. The rubber grippers harden and lose their hold. The treads and tires dry out and flatten. And the battery terminals corrode, especially after years of storage with batteries left inside.
Replacement parts we make for these robots
We reproduce the parts that wear out, measured from originals so they drop right in.
- Arm Linkage. The part most likely to break on these three. New reproduction linkage in red or white.
- Rubber Grippers. Fresh grippers to replace the hardened originals so the hand holds again.
- Replacement Treads and Tires (Set of 4). Cast in premium silicone rubber (not 3D printed) for a smooth, even roll.
- Battery Terminals (Complete Set). New aftermarket terminals to replace the corroded ones. These also fit the Omnibot 2000.
Looking for one of these robots?
We make the parts, not the robots, so we don't sell complete units. They turn up on eBay and among collectors. When you land one, we'll have what you need to bring it back.
